源自中古英語 nymylnemelnemyllnymell (敏捷的,迅捷的;准备就绪的;有能的)古英語 nǣmel (善于学习的)古英語 numol (能够拿稳的)的合并形式,两者均源自niman (拿,取) + -el-ol (联想后缀),等价于nim +‎ -le。对比德語 nehmen哥特語 𐌽𐌹𐌼𐌰𐌽 (niman)古諾爾斯語 nema ()。详见nim
