拉丁语 floccus (“一缕”) + naucum (“琐事”) + nihilum (“没有东西”) + pilus (“毛发”) + -fication。
这显然是伊顿公学的学生们创造的一种戏谑用语，[1]由多个拉丁语词干所组成。该词的灵感来自威廉·莉莉（William Lily，约 1468-1522 年）在17-19世纪出版的各种版本的拉丁语语法教科书（包括《伊顿拉丁语语法（Eton Latin Grammar）》）中的一句话，[2][3][4]其中列出了一些名词常用的属格与一些动词，像是pendo和facio的搭配，表示评价某物一文不值或如前所述：
“Flócci of a lock of wool, náuci of a nut-shell, níhili of nóthing, píli of a hair, ássis of a pénny, hújus of this, terúncii of a fárthing, addúntur are ádded, peculiáritèr pecúliarly or véry próperly vérbis to verbs æstimándi of esteéming.”

- 经常被认为是英语中最长的非专业单字，比著名的长单字antidisestablishmentarianism多一个字母。保守党议员雅各·里斯-莫格在2012年的一次辩论会中使用了该词，之后该词成为议会纪录的最长单字，直到2017年麦可·布莱恩（Michael Bryan）在青年专责委员会上使用了pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis，才打破这一纪录。[5]
