古旧用法:源自中古英语 orguile ← 古法语 orgueil [1]← 通俗拉丁语 *orgōllia, *orgōlla ← 古法兰克语 *orgōllja ← 原始日耳曼语 *uzgōljō(对比古英语 orgol, orgel。参见or- + *gōl (“炫耀,夸耀;气派,显赫”) / gale (“唱”))。与古高地德语 urguol, urguoli, urgilo, 西班牙语 orgullo同源。现代用法多是借自法语 orgueil。[2]
