This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote John Milton's book Paradise Lost (1st edition, 1667; and 2nd edition, 1674). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:

  • 1st edition (1667), arranged into 10 books:
  • 2nd edition (1674), revised and arranged into 12 books:
    • Version 1.
    • Version 2 (used only for these pages missing from version 1: 202, 203, 208–213, 242–247, and 276–281).

Parameters

編輯

The template takes the following parameters:

1st edition
  • |url= or |page=mandatory in some cases: as the work is not paginated, you must either:
    • use |url= to specify the URL of the page at the Internet Archive to link to, for example, |url=https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_F08CAAAAQAAJ/page/n9/mode/1up; or
    • use |page= to specify the Internet Archive "page" to be linked to. The actual work is unpaginated, but the Internet Archive has assigned numbers to each page of the work. For example, if the URL of the webpage to be linked to is https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_F08CAAAAQAAJ/page/n9/mode/1up, specify |page=9.
This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.
  • |line= or |lines= – the line number(s) of the work quoted.
2nd edition
  • |edition=mandatory: specify |edition=2nd.
  • |page= or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This information must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.
Both editions
  • |1= or |book=mandatory: the book quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals; in the 1st edition from |book=I to |book=X, and in the 2nd edition to |book=XII.
  • |2=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
