来自古希腊语 ἐννεάς (enneás)、ἐννεάδος (enneádos, “九人的身体”) + -ad (指定单位的后缀)；可分析为ennea- + -ad。希腊语词汇ἐννεάς和ἐννεάδος衍生自ἐννέᾰ (ennéa, “九”)[1] (源头来自原始印欧语 *h₁néwn̥ (“九”)) + -ᾰ́ς (-ás, 由数字构成抽象名词的后缀)或-ος (-os)。
