retroactive (“追溯的”) +‎ continuity (“連續性”)組成的混成詞。retroactive continuity（追溯連貫性）一詞由《群星中队》等超級英雄漫畫的作者 Roy Thomas 推廣開來，他稱這個詞出自一位匿名人士。
