可能借自意第緒語 שנויץ (shnoyts),其源自德語 Schnauze (鼻子)[1][2]对比schnozzle。另一较少见理论认为其是一个受到schm-的影响或者和意第绪语单词联想而得到的nose的变体。[3]至少1940年起已可考。
