用法說明
編輯- adverse和averse兩詞有時會混淆,雖然兩者詞義並不相同。adverse常指某物與某人的利益相悖,即某人會稱作adversity或adversary的東西 — (adverse winds; an attitude adverse to our ideals——逆風;與我們理想相悖的態度)。averse一般形容人,表示人反對,牴觸某物(a leader averse to war; an investor averse to risk taking——厭惡戰爭的領導人;不願冒風險的投資者)。averse常與to連用,構成如「I am averse to…」的形式。adverse少用於此類構式,因為它形容的是物不是人。
- averse from是古舊形式,對應於現代形式averse to。
