美国20世纪60年代,可能源自dick (鸡巴)在学生用语中的委婉形式,特别是在美国中西部。[1][2][3][4]本词从未用于特指鲸鱼的阴茎,而只是指广义的阴茎。

另一词源理论认为其源自方言挪威語 dorg (一摞;蠢人)
