源自中古英语 unruly (不安定的,骚动的),等价于un- +‎ rule +‎ -ly(对比中古英语 rulyreuli (符合教规的)),但也是早期形式中古英语 unroulyunroly (unquiet, restless)的变换形式,等价于un- +‎ roolie。后者源自古诺尔斯语 *úróligr或受其影响,与丹麦语 urolig (骚动的)瑞典语 orolig (骚动的)冰岛语 órólegur (激动的)有关。亦对比中古英语 unroounro (焦虑)。详见roo
