編輯1571年,意為「帶回監獄」,源自中古英語 repryen (「扣押,羈押」)(1494年),可能源自中古法語 repris,reprendre (「拿回」)的一個變位形式,與reprise同源。其詞義已被泛化,但還暗含監獄或處刑的色彩。名詞用法自1598年可考。[2]對比拉丁語 privare。
